President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has written to the embattled Speaker of Parliament, Anita Annet Among, asking her to clarify on ownership of a certain property in the United Kingdom.

“I have got information that is contrary to what you told me, that you, indeed, own a house in London in the form of Flat 4, Silk House, 7 Waterden Road, London, E20 3AL, United Kingdom. Do you own that house or are you renting it?,” a May 23, letter by Museveni read.

The President further directed the Minister of Foreign Affairs to contact the UK Government and get details regarding the house. He also informed the IGG on the same.

Recently, Museveni revealed that he had held a meeting with the British High Commissioner to Uganda, H.E Kate Airey, at State House Nakasero, where she informed him that Anita Among owned Houses and bank accounts in the UK.

“…She said that Anita Among has got a house or houses in the UK and has got bank accounts from which she pays school fees for her children who are studying there,” wrote the President.

The President directed the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Attorney General to write to authorities in the United Kingdom (UK), demanding for the source of their information that Speaker Anita Among owns assets in the country.

He subsequently asked the Inspector General of Government and the Minister of Integrity to investigate whether Speaker Among declared her alleged UK properties as required by law under the Leadership Code.

The directives from the President came at the backdrop of UK government sanctions against Anita Among.

The UK government cited serious corruption and illicit wealth on the part of Anita Among, saying the sanctions were aimed at combating corruption globally.

In a May 11, 2024 letter to the Foreign Affairs Minister, the President revealed that the Deputy Inspector General of Government, Dr. Patricia Achan Okiria, informed him that Anita Among never revealed that she had a house or houses in the United Kingdom.

“I have received a letter from Dr. Patricia Achan Okiria, Deputy Inspector General of Government, of the 9th of May, 2024, informing me that the Rt. Hon. Anita Annet Among never revealed that she had a house in United Kingdom, ” Museveni said, adding that Among also told him that she does not own a house or houses in UK.

Anita Among has consistently claimed that the UK sanctions are informed by the passing of the Anti-Homosexuality Law. However, the mover and seconder of the Bill were not sanctioned.
