Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) are in hot pursuit of Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebels who attacked Lhubiriha secondary school in Mpondwe, Kasese district.
Police spokesperson, Fred Enanga, said the terrorists burnt a dormitory and looted a food store.
“So far, 25 bodies have been recovered from the school and transferred to Bwera Hospital. Also recovered are 8 victims, who remain in critical condition at Bwera Hospital.”
Defence Spokesperson, Brig Gen Felix Kulayigye, said the terrorists also abducted several other children.
“We are in hot pursuit of the elements who abducted the children,” Kulayigye told SoftPowerNews on Saturday morning.
The DPC of Bwera got in touch with the Commander of the UPDF Mountain Battalion and the forces advanced to the scene.
On arrival, the school was found burning with dead bodies of students lying in the compound and the school’s food store broken into and food (posho and beans) taken.
A fire truck from the region was called to put off the fire.
Information from the public indicates that the attackers moved on foot with some abducted students (numbers not established) whom they used to carry the looted food towards Virunga National Park.
On June 8, 1998, ADF rebels attacked Kichwamba Technical Institute where they killed 80 students, left others injured and several abducted.
