Legislators Muhammad Ssegirinya (Kawempe North) and Allan Ssewanyana (Makindye West) have finally been granted bail.

Masaka High Court Judge, Lawrence Tweyanze, on Monday asked the lawmakers to pay Shs20m cash each.

Their sureties were bonded Shs50m each non-cash.

The MPs will further deposit their passports with court and report monthly to the International Crimes Division of High Court.

Earlier, the Directorate of Public Prosecution withdrew affidavits of three of the state witnesses who had pinned the two MPs to the to the murders in the Greater Masaka Region.

State Attorney Richard Birivumbuka said they had decided to withdraw the three statements in which the MPs were accused of murdering one Joseph Bwanika, a resident of Kankamba village in Lwengo district.

He further informed court that the DPP had no more objection to the MPs being granted bail.

Ssegirinya and Ssewanyana alongside five others including Mike Sserwadda, Jude Muwonge, Bull Wamala, John Mugerwa and Jackson Kanyike, are accused of murder, attempted murder, aiding and abetting terrorism stemming from the 2021 spate of killings in Greater Masaka region that left over 20 people killed.
