According to police, the lawmaker died in an accident that happened at Naboa Town Council along the Mbale-Tirinyi Road.

Hon Okabe died on the spot while his wife Chritine Okabe died on the way to Hospital.

The driver only identified as Jacob remains in critical condition at Mbale regional referral hospital.

Police attributed the accident to the Isuzu box body driver who drifted from his side to the side of the Land cruiser that was coming from Mbale heading to Iganga and thus had a head on collision.

The driver of the Fuso box body is on the run.

“It is with great sadness that I announce the death of Serere County Member of Parliament, Hon.Patrick Okabe, and his wife Christine Okabe who perished in a motor accident on Mbale-Tirinyi road,” said Speaker Rt Hon Anita Among.

“Death has indeed robbed us of a God fearing legislator, a remarkable leader, a great statesman who was dedicated to serving his country, and a champion for women empowerment and human rights. My thoughts and prayers are with his children, family and the people of Serere County. May their souls rest in peace,” she added.
