Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) says the Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) conducted over the last two days have ended smoothly with no major challenges.

UNEB noted that most parts of the country including those that normally experience heavy rain at this time of the year, were cool and dry which enabled the effective distribution of the examination papers to the various centres.

However, the Board noted some areas got some rain on the first day but this did not affect the delivery of the examination papers.

The Board also says that it managed to effectively conduct examinations in the two districts of Kassanda and Mubende that are under lockdown due to Ebola.

In the areas, UNICEF provided 35 mini-buses that helped to transport both the candidates and some examination officials to the examination centres.

In the Karamoja region where there were threats of insecurity in some areas, the UNEB received assistance from the UPDF which airlifted the question papers to places like Kotido, Kabong, and Karenga.

According to UNEB Spokesperson, Jennifer Kalule, 832,810 candidates from 14,153 centres sat for PLE this year.
