The Ministry of Internal Affairs has explained why Swangz Avenue’s singer Winnie Nakanwagi aka Winnie Nwagi was last week blocked from accessing its premises.
According to Simon Mundeyi, the Ministry’s Spokesperson, Nwagi was indecently dressed which contravened their dressing policy as a public place.
“…It drew the attention of our police officers who were manning the security of the place. So, our officers were very professional and politely asked her to leave because it was improper and contravening our very strict dress policy, which emphasizes decency,” Mundeyi explained.
He added: “Because, you know, between me and you that ministry is a public place, it is the only place where everybody goes to get a passport. And as such, it hosts very, very important people. We have ministers coming. We have parents coming there. We have children coming there. We have in laws and all sorts of respected people. So, the way she was dressed really did not depict a good person.”
He noted that on top of being indecently dressed, Nwagi was very rude to the security personnel manning the area.
“The lady was very rude to our security and exchanged very, very, very tough words, which I can’t even mention,” he said.
“Later on, I knew that she’s a mother and respectable member of society. So, I call upon musicians and other celebrities who would want to come to the ministry to access services to dress decently. That is a government ministry. We have a dress code and do not entertain naked artists. We call upon celebrities to respect our security.”
Mundeyi clarified that they do not discriminate but encourage decency, urging Nwagi to return when she is decently dressed.
“So wherever she is, we are not saying that you don’t come to the ministry. Let her come well dressed we shall be able to serve her,” he noted.
The singer showed up at immigration offices dressed in skimpy pants and a ‘damaged’ jacket only to be turned away by security.
