Leaders of the National Unity Platform (NUP) have laid a foundation stone for the establishment of their new headquarters in Bwaise-Kavule, a Kampala suburb.

This was formally unveiled by NUP President Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine accompanied by top party leaders like Mathias Mpuuga, the Leader of Opposition in Parliament, NUP Secretary General, David Lewis Rubongoya, among others.

“Very pleased today to lay the foundation stone for the establishment of the NUP headquarters in Bwaise, Kavule,” Bobi Wine announced on Tuesday.

He also lashed out at those who dismissed them (NUP/ People Power) as a mere wave.

“Those who dismissed us as a mere wave will soon realise that we are a serious group committed to leading the liberation struggle to its accomplishment,” he pointed out.

According to him, they will use the headquarters as a statement to differentiate them from “the ruling NRM party which after 36 years in power, has not constructed its own National offices”.

Towards 2021 General Elections, NRM procured their current offices at Plot 10 Kyadondo Road in Nakasero, Kampala.

NUP Spokesperson, Joel Ssenyonyi, said the construction of the new headquarters will soon commence.

He explained that the money was raised through donations, party leaders’ contributions and funding from parliament.

Speaking at the event, the NUP Secretary General, David Rubongoya, the old party offices in Kamwokya will be maintained and turned into a training facility for the youths.

This is the second headquarter being announced by the same party in the same year.

NUP founder Moses Kibalama’s faction last month opened a parallel office in Kabowa, Rubaga division calling it “NUP Headquarters”.
