The Uganda Musicians Association (UMA) electoral body has set June 28 as the new date for the elections.

The exercise was halted on 6th June 2022 due to technical challenges faced with the digital platform.

The glitch made it hard to deliver or demonstrate a free and fair result hence the decision to choose another election date and a more viable method.

According to Geoffrey Ekongot, the Chairman UMA Electoral Commission, the UMA Policy Board on June 10 set June 28 as the new date for the general elections.

The Policy board also resolved that the elections be held by secret-ballot and be carried out at one polling centre in Kampala for proper supervision.

“The Uganda Musicians’ Association Electoral Committee is thus preparing fresh polls scheduled for the 28th of June 2022 at the National Theatre Gardens. This was decided to organize the polls in the next two weeks so that the association does not continue any longer without leadership,” Ekongot said.

Sophie Gombya, the UMA Policy Board Vice Chairperson, said due to the high cost of organizing country-wide elections, they decided that members will have to come and vote from Kampala.

She said candidates will be expected to continue campaigning and carrying voter education.

Various activities shall be conducted to engage members towards election day.
