Six people have Saturday died in an accident in Bukomansimbi district.
ASP Faridah Nampiima, the PRO Traffic and Road Safety, said the accident happened around 1pm at Kawooko swamp after Namajuzi along Masaka-Bukomansimbi Road via Vira -Maria.
She said the fatal accident claimed the lives of six people.
The accident involved motor vehicle Reg No UAS 226U (a Fuso Fighter) that overturned killing six people (one female and five male) on the spot.
It is alleged that the driver, whose names are yet to be identified, failed to negotiate a corner after the steering wheel got stuck.
“The lorry truck was loaded with business luggage /merchandise plus their owners who were seated on the back of truck proceeding from Nyendo-Mukungwe division to the seasonal market in Bukomansimbi town before that nasty fatal accident,” Nampiima explained.
She identified the victims as; Natongo Saudah aka Mama Mpejja and resident of Nyendo-Mukungwe Division, Mulindwa Paul a resident of Nyendo-Mukungwe Division, Hussein Matovu a resident of Nyendo-Mukungwe Division, Sserunjongi Musilamu a resident of Nyendo Mukunge Division, Mugerwa Abdu aka Idada and Katumba a resident of Nyendo Mukunge Division.
The dead bodies have been conveyed in an ambulance to Masaka Regional Referral Hospital mortuary for post-mortem.
“Other victims of the accident who are yet to be confirmed have also been rushed to both Vira Maria Hospital in Kalungu District and Masaka Regional Referral Hospital in Masaka City,” Nampiima noted.
