The UPDF have refuted reports that have been circulating on social media platforms alleging that the home of Police chief Gen. Kale Kayihura was under siege.

The reports first carried by the ‘Investigator’ online publication’s Facebook page Thursday evening ‘confirmed’ that Kayihura’s home in Muyenga had been cordoned off by Military Police.

“This is after confessions made by the arrested SSP Nixon and others,” the post stated.

The information has since spread across different social media platforms, leaving questions hanging on many people’s minds.

Senior Supretendent of Police (SSP) Nixon Agasirwe who is deemed a close ally to IGP Kayihura was detained by Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI) this week along with other senior police officers in connection with ongoing investigations surrounding transborder extra-judicial operations.

But UPDF spokesperson Brig.Richard Karemire said in a statement that the army had not carried out such an operation as alleged.

“The UPDF wishes to inform the general public that contrary to the information circulated on social media, no military Police deployment has been made around the residence of Inspector General of Police Gen Kale Kayihura,” Brig. Karemire clarified.

“There is absolutely no situation to warrant such,” the statement further read.

Police is yet to make a statement on the issue.
