An explosive has claimed lives of two kids in Semuto, Nakaseke district.

According to AIGP Asan Kasingye, the Police Chief Political Commissar, a jackfruit-like explosive was given to children in Ssegalye village, Semuto sub-county, Nakaseke district.

Kasingye noted that this instantly killed Pius Kiwuuwa a physically handicapped child and Micheal Kiyingi 14, who were playing together with another child Shield Odong 10.

The incident comes at a backdrop of two bomb explosions at a pork joint in Komamboga, Kampala and on a Swift Safaris bus bound for Ishaka, at Lungala in Mpigi district. The blasts claimed two lives, and injured several others.

In a brief statement to the media, police revealed that the Nakaseke Incident happened at 4pm when Odong picked an orange like explosive and started playing with it.

Police noted that Odong was joined by Kiwuwa who tried squeezing it and in the course it exploded killing him instantly while Kiyingi and Odong sustained serious injuries.

“They were rushed to Nakaseke hospital for medication, but Michael Kiyingi died along the way to the hospital, Odong has been transferred to Bombo army hospital for further medical management,” Police said.

It is alleged that all the trio are biological children of Namukasa Kalyango.

Police further revealed that the scene of crime was cordoned off awaiting the team of bomb experts from counter terrorism Kampala.

Speaking to the media earlier this week, the Uganda Police Force Spokesperson CP Fred Enanga, appealed to all Ugandans to remain extra vigilant, and always pay much attention, to all forms of movements and surroundings.

Speaker of Parliament Jacob Oulanyah urged Ugandans to report every information of security concern to police.

“Unfortunate the extent to which terrorists can go to indiscriminately aim at destroying lives. Commiserations to families of our people who lost lives, he told the house on Thursday adding that: “We must be our first line of defence; I urge Hon. MPs and all Ugandans to share with Police, all information of security concern.”
