Uganda has established a new electricity extension line to Rwanda shifting from the old transmission which was in the old transmission corridor, SoftPower News has learnt.
The exercise spearheaded by Uganda’s main electricity distribution company UMEME and Uganda Electricity Transmission Company Limited (UETCL) kicked off on Friday at the Katuna common border post.
According to impeccable sources, the original transmission line was located within the road corridor as per the ongoing one stop border post construction and the road works within the area.
“The old electricity transmission line fell within the new planned roads of the one stop border post and so, the shift to the new extension outside the road corridor was inevitable,” says the source.
This news website has independently established the extension activities last three weeks to their completion.
Uganda’s exports of electrical energy to Rwanda were USD 550,000 in 2020, according to the United Nations COMTRADE database on international trade.
