Ruhakana Rugunda: Deceased Former Minister Manzi Served Uganda with Distinction

Uganda’s former Prime Minister, Dr Ruhakana Rugunda has mourned the former Rukiga County Member of Parliament and Minister of State for Privatization Manzi Tumubweine, who died on Friday.

He succumbed to Covid-19 on Friday at around 10:00 PM at Case Clinic in Kampala where he has been admitted, according to his daughter, Peace Musimenta.

In a post on Twitter, Rugunda who is now a Special Envoy in the office of the President, says the deceased served his country with distinction.

Tumubweine was 1997, appointed Minister of State for trade, and in 1998, Minister of State for privatization. He also served as MP Rukiga County from 1996 until 2001, when he was defeated by FDC’s Jack Sabitti.

At the time of his death, he was serving as the chairperson of the National Gaming Board, Chairperson of Kabale University Council, and Lecturer at Makerere University. He was also the Director of Kenlloyd Logistics Company Limited.

A total of 423 people have so far died of COVID19 in Uganda as the positivity rate slips to 18.3%. The country has registered a spike in COVID19 cases since mid-april when the second wave began, registering an increase of more than 30% in recent weeks.
