ENTEBBE — Uganda’s Ghetto Kids were welcomed home as national heroes on Monday after returning from the global stage where they made history as the first Ugandan dance group to perform at the FIFA World Cup final halftime show.

The young performers arrived at Entebbe International Airport to an emotional reception, with hundreds of supporters gathering to celebrate a milestone that placed Uganda’s creative talent before millions of viewers around the world.

Dressed in Ugandan colours, fans waved flags, sang and danced as they waited for the group’s arrival. The atmosphere turned into a celebration of national pride as the dancers stepped out of the airport, with supporters capturing the moment on their phones and cheering the young stars.

The welcome marked the latest chapter in an extraordinary journey that began with street dance performances in Kampala’s informal settlements before transforming into international recognition.

The Ghetto Kids, known for their energetic dance routines and inspiring story, rose to fame through viral online videos that showcased their talent and creativity. Their performances eventually earned them international collaborations and appearances on some of the world’s biggest entertainment platforms.

Their appearance at the 2026 FIFA World Cup final halftime show became a defining moment for Uganda’s entertainment industry, making them the first Ugandan performers to take part in the prestigious global football spectacle.

For many Ugandans, the group’s achievement represented more than a dance performance. It was viewed as a celebration of resilience, opportunity and the power of young people to overcome difficult beginnings through talent and determination.

Supporters at Entebbe described the Ghetto Kids as ambassadors of Uganda’s creativity, saying their success had inspired children across the country to believe that their dreams could reach beyond their communities.

The group’s founder, Dauda Kavuma, popularly known as Manager Ticha, has built the Ghetto Kids brand around nurturing vulnerable children through dance, education and mentorship.

Over the years, the group has grown from performing on Kampala streets to appearing on international stages, earning recognition for their unique style that blends African rhythms, acrobatics and contemporary dance.

The World Cup performance further cemented their reputation as cultural ambassadors, showcasing Uganda’s artistic talent to a worldwide audience.

As they returned home, the young dancers carried not only the excitement of their global achievement but also the hopes of many young Ugandans who see their story as proof that talent can open doors regardless of background.

Their homecoming celebration at Entebbe served as a reminder that Uganda’s greatest exports are not only its natural resources and athletes, but also the creativity, determination and dreams of its young people.
