The Uganda Sand Cranes team will this evening face Mozambique in the second semi final at the ongoing 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Beach Soccer competition in Senegal.
Uganda’s coach Salim Muwonge has said they are confident the team can get a positive result at the Saly Beach Soccer Stadium.
To reach the semi finals the Uganda Sand Cranes lost their opening match 5-1 to hosts and defending champions Senegal, before they defeated Tanzania 4-3. Senegal went on to beat Tanzania 3-1 in the last Group A match that enabled Muwonge’s team make it to the semis.
Muwonge says although Mozambique is a strong team, his team is in good shape and if they play according to plan can get a positive result.
Muwonge added that his players are motivated because they know that making it to the final will mean qualification for the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup.
Uganda is just a win away to qualify for FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup finals that will be staged in Russia later this year in August. This is the first time Uganda is playing in the finals of the AFCON Beach Soccer.
