People in Kisoro district have organized a thanksgiving ceremony to thank President Yoweri Museveni for re-appointing the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Gen. Kale Kayihura. Kayihura who hails from the south western Uganda district has been at the helm of Police since 2005 and was in May this year reappointed for another tenure.
The thanksgiving ceremony held Saturday at Saaza grounds in Kisoro Municipality and was presided over by Prime Minister Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda. Other government officials that attended included Chief Justice Bart Katureebe, Elly Tumwine and State Minister for Regional Cooperation Philemon Mateke, Kisoro MPs Sam Bitangaro, Sam Byibesho and former Minister Nsaba Buturo.
Meanwhile, the IGP used the occasion to donate 100 bed sheets, blankets and oxygen concentrator to Kisoro Hospital. The donations, he said were in a bid to improve the welfare of patients at the hospital which according to the Medical Superintendent, Micheal Baganizi is faced with a shortage of means of transport, poor status of male and female wards and water shortage.
Kayihura used the occasion to emphasize the need to adopt the ‘Mayumba Kumi’ (neighborhood watch) as a means to strengthen security in the district, before he launched a Police Post at the hospital.
This was in response to the security related issues raised earlier by hospital officials including thefts of property that has been rampart.
In commending the Police boss, Minister Mateke said; “Police has done recommendable work for the country. Kayihura has love for the people of Kisoro,” highlighting among others his support in sports activities.
