National Unity Platform’s Rubaga North councilor elect, James Mubiru will this afternoon be arraigned before the general court martial in Makindye, SoftPower News has learnt.

Mubiru was recently arrested by security operatives at Kasubi market in Rubaga division on crimes yet to be known.

Over the weekend, news made rounds that Mubiru had died. Many NUP supporters claimed that he had succumbed to torture in custody. In fact, a video clip showing a semblance of a vigil at his home in Rubaga made rounds as grieving relatives wept over the ‘death’ of their son.

Musiri David, a former Makindye West MP aspirant also posted a photo of a vigil that reportedly ongoing at the offices of the youthful Councillor.

Amid the speculation, Joel Ssenyonyi, the party’s mouthpiece, said their search to trace Mubiru’s whereabouts was ongoing.

“…. James has been missing for a couple of days, and we’re still trying to establish his whereabouts,” wrote Ssenyonyi.

This news website embarked on an investigation to establish Mubiru’s whereabouts. An impeccable security source said Mubiru would be charged before the army court.

“All arrests are credible – information led. The suspects found with military stores are charged before the court martial,” the source said.

Probed about Mubiru’s whereabouts and asked to comment on NUP supporters’ claims that he is dead, the source said, ” we do not conduct investigations in media. NUP has chosen to project everyone arrested as dead. That will not stop us from doing our work and ensuring Uganda remains secure and stable.”

Prior to his arrest, James Mubiru had been using both mainstream and social media to rally Ugandans to engage in protests against the election of President Yoweri Museveni after NUP party president Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu withdrew from Supreme Court, his petition in which he was challenging the President’s victory of January 14, 2021 Presidential Elections.
