Judicial officers have today suspended industrial action to enable implementation of Government promises.
At a meeting at the High Court, the officers under their umbrella body, the Uganda Judicial Officers Association (UJOA) voted to to defer the strike to December 11th, 2017.
They laid down tools last month demanding an increase in their salaries and improved working conditions.
The officers, however, agreed to call off the strike after getting a promise from government.
“It is high time we return to work,”UJOA president Godfrey Kaweesa said.
They resolved to resume with the strike in December in case government fails to honor its promise.
Speaking to the judicial officers, Chief Justice Bart Katureebe said it is high time government worked on the issues affecting the judiciary.
“Our story has been told and we hope they have heard us,” he said.
He asked the judiciary to indentify those who are in support of their demands and isolate their ‘enemy.’
The Justice and Constitutional affairs minister Kahinda Otafiire assured them that government is always committed to fulfilling its pledge.
