President Yoweri Museveni has promoted Ivan Koreta and Joram Mugume to the highest army rank of General, in the latest changes that saw a total of 2,031 UPDF officers elevated to new ranks, according to the army spokesperson, Brig Richard Karemire.
Lt Gen Ivan Koreta and Lt Gen Joram Mugume have both been elevated to the rank of General. Koreta represents the UPDF in Parliament while Mugume is the Chairman Board of Directors at the National Enterprise Corporation, the business arm of the army.
Some ten other UPDF officers at the rank of Maj Gen have been promoted by Museveni who is the Commander-in-chief of the army, to the rank of Lieutenant General.
These are; Pecos Kutesa, Muhoozi Kainerugaba, John Mugume, Prossy Nalweyiso, Charles Awany Otema, James Nakibus Lakara, Peter Elwelu, James Mugira, Joseph Musanyufu and Charles Lutaaya.
In the same changes by the Commander-in-chief elevated 17 officers from the rank of Brigadier to Major General, including the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Sabiiti Muzeyi, Leopold Kyanda who is currently the Chief of Staff of the UPDF Land Forces.
In addition, 36 army officers have moved from the rank of Colonel to Brig Gen.
“The UPDF fraternity congratulates them for their patriotic service to our country Uganda,” the UODF spokesperson, Brig Richard Karemire said in a statement.
The UPDF said that out of those promoted, 100 were elevated to align with establishment appointments, 97 promoted for retirement and 130 promoted for long reckonable record of service. Forty nine (49) had successfully completed Grade II staff course, 1,082 had been recommended by their formations/units while 375 had passed promotional examinations.
Twenty seven (27) were promoted upon completion of probation while 171 were elevated from other ranks to officer level.
