Parliament plenary sessions are scheduled to resume on January 8, next week after legislators broke off for the festive season.
Parliament announced on Wednesday that plenary will resume on Tuesday January 8.
The Parliamentary Committee sittings will also resume in the same week. Much of the public attention will be focused on the Committee on Statutory Authorities and State Enterprises (COSASE) as it proceeds with the ongoing probe into Bank of Uganda over the closure of seven defunct banks.
In December last year, Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga extended COSASE’s tenure to February. The tenure for the current COSASE leadership under MP Abdul Katuntu was meant to expire on January 16 but was extended to February 20 to allow the committee conclude their assignment.
“The Parliamentary Commission wishes you all a great and productive New Year, 2019. The institution is open and ready to serve you,” a statement on the official Parliament Twitter account read.
Parliament has also announced the dates for this year’s Annual Parliament Week. Activities to mark the week in which the legislative arm of government opens itself more to the public, will begin on January 13 to 19.
This year’s activities are themed on ‘Championing accountability to improve service delivery’.
The activities will include a Charity Walk, an Ecumenical prayer breakfast and, department exhibitions others.
