Kirumira’s Killing Wont Stop the Struggle He Stood For, Says Bobi Wine

Kyadondo East legislator, Robert Kyagulanyi (Bobi Wine) has said that the struggle for which vocal Police officer, ASP Muhammad Kirumira was brutally murdered will not stop.

Bobi Wine who is currently in the U.S said that Kirumira was killed for nothing else but the truth he stood for.

The police officer who was outspoken and a critic of the criminal elements that had eaten up the Uganda Police Force during the tenure of former IGP Gen Kale Kayihura was assassinated on Sunday night near Kampala.

He together with a female identified as Resty Nalinya were seated in his vehicle at around 9pm when masked assailants opened fire on them resulting in their death.

Kirumira had been a comrade to Bobi Wine, as shortly after the tragic incident, he (Bobi Wine) posted a photo they took together some time back.

“My brother Afande Kirumira, today you’re being laid to rest at only 35 years of age. I am still struggling to believe that you were shamelessly murdered in cold blood,” Bobi Wine posted on Sunday, the same day Kirumira’s body was laid to rest in Mpambire in Mpigi district.

“Your only crime was speaking truth to power, fighting for justice and loving your country. They were so crude – they did not to use anything else to kill you, but gruesome violence,” the singer turned politician wrote on his Facebook.

Bobi Wine said he had spent the day reflecting on the conversations he had had with the police officer – about a better country, equality, unity and social justice.

“They have killed you but they have not stopped the struggle. You stood for what you believed in. It is better to die on your feet than live on your knees”.

“We shall never give up bro. We shall never let you down. We shall never give up. We shall be free or die trying,” Kyagulanyi said.

His message resonated with that of some of the opposition politicians including Dr Kizza Besigye, Erias Lukwago and Medard Ssegona who during the burial of Kirumira said that they would continue to push for the ideals that he stood for.

Kirumira who came to prominence during his tenure as O.C for Nansana police station made it his endeavor to expose the illegal dealings of some of the Senior officers in the Police to engage themselves in criminality. He often referred to himself as ‘Mwoyo gwa Gwanga’ (one with a spirit of patriotism) and at one point said he was ready to die for the truth.

In June of this year, Justice and Constitutional Affairs minister, Maj Gen Kahinda Otafiire praised Kirumira for blowing the whistle about the illegal operations of police, which he said would help government with investigations.
