Opposition Democratic Party (DP) has assured the people of Arua Municipality that their candidate and popular musician in West Nile, Madira Kennedy alias JM Kennedy is the suitable candidate to best represent them in Parliament.

Addressing the media on Tuesday at City House, DP President, Norbert Mao rallied all voters and supporters to vote for Madira for his social message that he has for long channeled through music.

The Arua Municipality seat fell vacant after the gruesome assassination of the former MP, Ibrahim Abiriga who was killed by unknown assassins on his way home in Kawanda near Kampala.

“We have a very promising candidate in Arua Municipality. JM Kennedy is a popular musician in West Nile. I think musicians have passed their messages through the music long and now want also to speak in Parliament which we welcome,” Mao said.

Mao said that Madira is one of a few musicians who sings with a social conscience and has through his music fought for the plight of the lay man in West Nile.

“We encouraged him to pursue the race; we have musicians who are just looking for money only to buy new cars to go round showing off. But there are those that sing about the social problems that affect the people in the country,” Mao said.

Mao added that, “It’s not about the music but the message. We have endorsed the candidature of JM Kennedy because his message has had impact on the society.”

Mao said that if it’s only about singing, there are a lot of people that may sing better than him but his message is powerful and can galvanize people to act.

“We judge music not by how much people like the song, bits and lyrics but how it compels people to take action against the social evils and that is how we judged JM Kennedy.”
