Former Inspector General of Police, Gen Kale Kayihura has been airlifted to the army headquarters where he had been summoned to appear, according to the army spokesperson.
Yesterday, some sections of the media reported that there had been a search operation in pursuit of Gen Kayihura in Lyantonde. The same reports alleged that the Countryyard Hotel in Lyantonde had been combed top to bottom in search for Kayihura but with no success.
Some reports went on to speculate that Kayihura had infact been arrested, which claims the Senior Presidential Advisor on Security, Gen Salim Saleh later described as fake news.

Now, it has emerged that efforts had been made on Tuesday to transport the former IGP from his home in Lyantonde to the UPDF headquarters in Mbuya, Kampala only to find that he wasn’t there.
“Gen Kale Kayihura is still a serving officer of the UPDF and has been staying in Kashagama in Lyantonde district since March 15 2018 after handing over the office of Inspector General of Police,” read a brief statement issued on Wednesday by the army spokesperson, Brig Richard Karemire.
According to Brig Karemire, yesterday, June 12, Gen Kayihura was asked to report to the UPDF Chief of Defence Forces, Gen David Muhoozi at the general headquarters in Mbuya.
“A helicopter was subsequently dispatched to transport him from there [Kashagama] but on arrival, Gen Kale had travelled to Mbarara abs so it had to return to Entebbe Air Force base,” the statement adds.
The army spokesperson says that the helicopter was today sent back to Kayihura’s home and it airlifted him to Kampala.
UPDF could not reveal the details surrounding the summoning of the General to the military headquarters.
