Prince Harry and American actress, Meghan Markel are officially husband and wife. The newly wed couple made their vows and were declared married at 12:39pm British local time by the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby in a ceremony that attracted global attention.
Over 600 people including the Royal family, friends, invited guests and Hollywood stars converged in the St George’s Chapel near the Windsor Castle to witness Harry and Meghan form a matrimonial union. The two are henceforth, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
The bride in a stunning givenchy haute couture gown designed by Clare Waight Keller arrived at the chapel shortly after Queen Elizabeth II in company of 10 bridesmaids and page boys.
Her motorcade drove through thousands of people who cheered and waved flags.
Inside the chapel, Meghan was received halfway the aisle by Prince Charles who escorted her to the waiting groom, in the absence of the bride’s father.
Prince Harry, clad in his black royal millitary suit later unveiled his bride and the two exchanged vows.
Doria Ragland, mother to the bride and the only one from Meghan’s family who attended sat through the service struggling to prevail over the emotions.
African American bishop Michael Curry from Chicago delivered a deep sermon underscoring the significance of love.
The memorable wedding was graced by royalty in same measure as it was star studded. Several of the female guests wore different shades and kinds of hats akin to late Princess Diana’s (Harry’s mother) signature look.
Hollywood actors Oprah Winfrey, Idris Elba, James Blut, George Clooney attended, and so did Elton John, David and Victoria Beckham. Lead actors in American legal drama series ‘Suits’ with whom Meghan acted also attended.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex later rode through Windsor in a horse and carriage, and will later be hosted to a lunch reception by the Queen.
