The Chief Coordinator of Operation Wealth Creation (OWC), Gen Salim Saleh (Rtd) and Gen Ivan Koreta, the former Deputy Chief of Defence Forces are in Mozambique ahead of President Museveni’s visit set to strengthen historic ties between the two countries.
General Saleh took to his Facebook account on Thursday morning to post a picture of himself and contemporaries, Gen Ivan Koreta and Col Bosco Omure at Serena Polana Hotel in Mozambique.
“With Lt Gen Ivan Koreta and Col Bosco Omure at Polana Serena Hotel Maputo on our way to Montepuez in Mozambique where we trained and graduated in leadership 40 years ago,” Gen Saleh posted.
He later shared a picture with their former Montepuez chief instructor’s daughter, Anita Domingo.
Apart from reconnecting with their past freedom trail in Mozambique, Gen Saleh who heads OWC is pursuing markets for Ugandan products as well as mutually beneficial partnerships with Mozambique on food security.
He has met Mozambique’s Minister of Agriculture, Higino de Marrule on closer cooperation in the sector.
Operation Wealth Creation was set up by President Museveni in 2013 to transform Uganda’s subsistence farmers into commercial ones and increase household incomes.
Gen Saleh has since refocused the operation to drive industrialisation in the country and agro-processing with a view to Uganda’s finished products penetrating regional and international products.
President Museveni who arrives in Mozambique on Thursday, and host Filipe Nyusi are expected to sign several bilateral agreements on food security and trade, among others.
President Museveni is also scheduled to visit Montepuez where he trained a number of fighters that were key to Uganda’s freedom struggle, initially by the Front for National Salvation (FRONASA) and later by the National Resistance Army (NRA) in the early 80s.
The struggle led to the defeat of tyrannical regimes and President Museveni taking charge of the country in 1986.
