Mukono — Uganda Christian University (UCU) is mourning the death of Ms Pamela Ruth Tumwebaze, the University’s Director of Student Affairs and a member of the institution’s Senior Management, whose passing has left the university community in shock and grief.

In a death announcement shared on its official platforms, UCU described Tumwebaze’s death as a devastating loss, noting that she was a committed leader who served students with dedication and compassion.

“It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of Ms Pamela Tumwebaze, the Director of Student Affairs, and member of the Uganda Christian University Senior Management,” the university said.

According to preliminary reports, Tumwebaze died in the early hours of Wednesday, February 11, 2026, after an intruder reportedly entered her locked home in Mukono District.

Police investigations indicate that the attacker is believed to have strangled her during the attack before fleeing the scene with her laptop and other belongings. The suspect reportedly demanded keys before escaping.

Tumwebaze lived with her two sons, aged 9 and 13, as well as a 20-year-old house help, identified as Sharif Lwantale, who is said to have found her unresponsive and rushed her to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

The incident has sparked widespread sorrow across the UCU fraternity, with students, staff, alumni and fellow institutions describing her death as both tragic and deeply painful.

In a condolence message, the UCU Alumni Association described Tumwebaze as a passionate educator and preacher, noting that her contribution to the university and her faith-driven leadership will be greatly missed.

“A passionate Educator and preacher of the word, Pamela went to be with the LORD in the early hours of Wednesday, February 11, 2026,” the alumni association said.

The UCU Guild Government also released a statement mourning her loss, describing her as a selfless servant who consistently prioritised student welfare. “Her dedication to student welfare will forever remain in our hearts,” the guild leadership said.

Messages of condolence have also poured in from other universities, including Ndejje University, which expressed solidarity with the UCU community and Tumwebaze’s family.

“Ndejje University extends its deepest condolences to Uganda Christian University on the tragic loss of Ms Pamela Tumwebaze,” the institution said.

Students and colleagues have remembered Tumwebaze as approachable, compassionate and deeply committed to nurturing young people. Reports indicate that she had spoken publicly about building healthy relationships only hours before her death, making the news of her passing even more heartbreaking for those who interacted with her.
