AFCON 2025: Round of 16 Set as Morocco and Cote d’Ivoire Lead Knockout Charge

The Round of 16 fixtures for the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 have been confirmed following a thrilling group stage that once again showcased the depth and world-class quality of African football.

The knockout phase gets underway from Saturday, 3 January to Tuesday, 6 January, with two matches scheduled each day at 17h00 local time (16h00 GMT) and 20h00 local time (19h00 GMT), as the remaining contenders battle for places in the quarter-finals.

Hosts Morocco headline Sunday’s action when they take on Tanzania at the Stade Prince Moulay Abdellah in Rabat (17h00 local time / 16h00 GMT). Backed by a passionate home crowd, the Atlas Lions will be aiming to end a 50-year wait for continental glory. Morocco finished top of Group A, while Tanzania progressed as one of the four best third-placed teams from Group C.

Later that evening, South Africa face Cameroon at the Al Medina Stadium in Rabat (20h00 local time / 19h00 GMT), in a compelling encounter that sees Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos come up against the side he guided to AFCON success in 2017.

The Round of 16 begins on Saturday in Tangier, where 2021 champions Senegal meet Sudan at the Grand Stade de Tangier (17h00 local time / 16h00 GMT). That will be followed by a North African showdown in Casablanca, as Mali face Tunisia at the Stade Mohammed V (20h00 local time / 19h00 GMT), with Mali chasing a first AFCON title and Tunisia hoping to relive their 2004 triumph.

On Monday, record seven-time champions Egypt continue their quest to end a title drought stretching back to 2010 when they face Benin at the Grand Stade de Agadir (17h00 local time / 16h00 GMT). Later that night, an in-form Nigeria side take on Mozambique at the Complexe Sportif de Fès (20h00 local time / 19h00 GMT), as the Super Eagles look to improve on their runners-up finish at the 2023 edition.

The Round of 16 concludes on Tuesday with Algeria facing the Democratic Republic of Congo at the Stade Prince Héritier Moulay El Hassan in Rabat (17h00 local time / 16h00 GMT). Defending champions Côte d’Ivoire then meet Burkina Faso at the Grand Stade de Marrakech (20h00 local time / 19h00 GMT) in a blockbuster finale to the knockout phase.

The quarter-finals will be played on 9–10 January, with the final scheduled for 18 January at the Stade Prince Moulay Abdellah in Rabat.
