Kiboga — President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has urged Ugandans to make informed and responsible choices during elections, warning that leadership decisions can determine whether a country enjoys lasting stability or slides into chaos.

The President made the remarks while addressing a mammoth crowd at Ssaza Grounds in Kiboga District during a campaign rally. “Politics is not like football. Elections are a serious national matter,” President Museveni cautioned, urging voters not to trivialise the electoral process.

Drawing lessons from history, the President recalled the 1962 elections, noting that poor political choices at the time led to loss of life and years of instability. “Wrong decisions in leadership can cost a country dearly,” he said, emphasising the need for voters to understand candidates, policies, voting procedures, and how government functions.

President Museveni asked the people of Kiboga to support him and other National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag bearers in the forthcoming elections, saying this was necessary to safeguard the party’s legacy and contributions to Uganda’s progress.

NRM’s Contributions

The President highlighted four of the seven historic contributions of the NRM over the past 40 years — peace, development, wealth creation, and job creation — saying these pillars have transformed districts like Kiboga from insecurity to stability and growth.

He described peace as the foundation of all progress, noting that Kiboga has enjoyed uninterrupted stability for more than four decades. “Many generations here have grown up without experiencing war,” he said, attributing this to the NRM’s rejection of sectarian politics based on tribe, religion, gender, or age.

He also credited government immunisation programmes and inclusive leadership for improved social and health outcomes.

Infrastructure and Oil Prospects

On development, President Museveni outlined government investments in roads, electricity, telecommunications, and railways, citing the Hoima–Kiboga road as a key project.

He pledged further upgrades to roads linking Kiboga to neighbouring districts and noted that the anticipated start of oil production next year would provide resources to fast-track infrastructure projects delayed by funding constraints.

Wealth and Jobs

Turning to wealth creation, the President emphasised that national prosperity begins at the household level. “Wealth creation starts with family income,” he said, urging families to embrace agriculture and enterprise.

He reiterated the NRM’s four-acre model, which promotes diversified production for smallholder farmers.

On job creation, President Museveni said employment would come from individual enterprise, including commercial agriculture, factories, services, and ICT. He added that government skilling centres are equipping young people with practical skills such as welding, baking, and other trades.

Leaders Rally Support

NRM First National Vice Chairperson Alhajji Moses Kigongo called on party leaders and supporters in Kiboga to mobilise peacefully and engage voters respectfully to consolidate support during the election period.

Speaker of Parliament and NRM Second National Vice Chairperson (Female), Rt. Hon. Anita Annet Among, thanked the President for tarmacking the Hoima–Kiboga road, saying it had eased transport and boosted trade. She also appealed for the establishment of a coffee processing factory in the district to enhance value addition and farmers’ incomes.

NRM Vice Chairperson for Central Region Hon. Haruna Kasolo assured residents that the NRM government has delivered on its commitments and would continue to do more if re-elected.

Kiboga District NRM Chairperson Hon. Ruth Nankabirwa thanked President Museveni for restoring peace and strengthening security through the establishment of police stations in areas previously affected by criminal activity. She also praised wealth creation programmes such as the Parish Development Model (PDM) and Emyooga, noting that many households in Kiboga have benefited.

The rally underscored the NRM’s campaign message of stability, continuity, and informed participation ahead of the forthcoming elections.
