On September 17, the nation was left heartbroken when Peruth Chemutai, the 2021 Olympic gold medalist in the women’s 3000m steeplechase, suffered a horrific fall at the hurdles, bringing her race to a painful halt. Uganda Athletics expressed solidarity with her, praising her courage and determination despite the setback.

However, there was a ray of hope on September 20 when Uganda Athletics confirmed that Chemutai is steadily recovering. “Her spirit is strong, and she’s focused on healing. Wishing her a smooth and speedy comeback,” the federation posted on X (formerly Twitter).

Meanwhile, Joy Cheptoyek put up a commendable performance in the women’s 5000m final, finishing 16th in the world with a time of 15:18.98. Her effort drew praise from athletics fans and officials alike, as she continues to build her profile on the international stage.
