The Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) has reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with the media to ensure timely and equitable access to official data, following a high-level engagement with Vision Group management on Tuesday.
UBOS Executive Director Dr. Chris N. Mukiza paid a courtesy visit to Vision Group CEO Mr. Don Wanyama at the media house’s headquarters, where the two leaders discussed strengthening their long-standing partnership in using statistics to inform public debate and guide policy formulation.

Dr. Mukiza commended Vision Group for incorporating official statistics in its reporting, saying this was in line with UBOS’s mandate of disseminating credible data and building a robust national statistical system.
“The Bureau remains committed to availing quality and relevant data to support planning and decision-making,” Dr. Mukiza said. “The media plays a key role in disseminating official statistics, and our collaboration ensures equal access to data by all Ugandans.”

He revealed that UBOS had recently published Area Profiles from the Uganda Census 2024 Main Report, with statistics available down to the parish level.
“The report contains information on total population, number of households, and other demographic characteristics essential for the implementation of the Parish Development Model and other national and international development frameworks,” he noted.

Mr. Wanyama praised UBOS under Dr. Mukiza’s leadership for consistently providing high-quality data that enhances the credibility of news content.
“We appreciate UBOS for availing accurate statistical data that supports the authenticity of our stories,” Mr. Wanyama said. “The Uganda Census 2024 report is a rich source of information, and we encourage that such data be simplified so the public can easily understand and use it.”

Both leaders agreed that greater media–statistics collaboration would not only improve the public’s understanding of national trends but also promote evidence-based decision-making at all levels.
