In a moving farewell address delivered at the release of the May 2025 examination results, CPA Josephine Okui Ossiya, the outgoing President of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (ICPAU), reflected on her tenure with pride and gratitude while urging the next generation of accountants to uphold excellence and integrity in their careers.
Speaking from the Protea Hotel by Marriott Kampala Skyz in Naguru, CPA Ossiya began her remarks by congratulating the candidates who undertook the May 2025 exams, lauding their commitment and resilience.
“You have shown that with focus and determination, the CPA qualification is within reach,” she said, addressing the top performers and all who passed. “You have reached a critical milestone—one that marks the beginning of a purposeful career.”
CPA Ossiya encouraged those still on the qualification journey to stay the course and reminded them that becoming a Certified Public Accountant is more than a personal triumph—it’s an invitation to join a global community rooted in professionalism and ethics.
A Bittersweet Goodbye
In an emotional turn, CPA Ossiya acknowledged that this occasion would likely be her last official duty in releasing CPA exam results as ICPAU President. With Council elections set for later this month, her term comes to a close after years of what she described as “tremendous honour” and service to the profession.
“This moment is bittersweet for me,” she said. “While farewells are never easy, I am filled with pride as I look back at what we have achieved together.”
Calling for the standing recognition of the current ICPAU Council members, Ossiya praised the leadership team that has guided the Institute since 2023, underscoring the importance of continuity and governance in sustaining ICPAU’s mission.
Awards, Forums & Professional Development
CPA Ossiya also used her final platform to share several key updates from the Institute: the 2025 Accountancy Service Awards (ASA) will be held on 3 October as a standalone event for the first time, recognising both accountants and non-accountants making significant contributions to the profession.
The 15th Financial Reporting (FiRe) Awards, co-hosted with the Capital Markets Authority, Uganda Securities Exchange, and Vision Group, will focus on “Sustainability Practices and Reporting in Uncertain Global Times.” Entries close on 30 September.
The 13th CPA Economic Forum is slated for 9–11 July at Imperial Resort Beach Hotel, Entebbe, under the theme: “Sustainable Economic Growth: Transforming Today, Thriving Tomorrow.”
She also encouraged CPA finalists to register for associate membership and, where applicable, to apply for full membership and begin using the CPA designation.
Gratitude to the Examination Team
Before concluding, CPA Ossiya extended heartfelt thanks to the Public Accountants Examinations Board (PAEB), examiners, markers, invigilators, and Secretariat staff who ensure the smooth delivery of exams. She also appreciated the media for their continued support in amplifying ICPAU’s mission.
“Your dedication is the backbone of our success,” she noted. Her final words served as both a rallying call and a reflective closure: “Let us remember: We create impact. For God and My Country.”
