Brigadier General Wycliffe Keita has officially assumed command of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) Joint Staff Training and Doctrine Command (JS TRADOC), succeeding Brig Gen Alex Olupot in a ceremony held at the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs (MODVA) headquarters in Mbuya.
Presiding over the handover, Chief of Joint Staff Maj Gen Jack Bakasumba reaffirmed the UPDF’s commitment to strengthening military training, calling it the cornerstone of national defence.

“Training is the backbone of what we do,” said Maj Gen Bakasumba. “We shall give this department all it needs to ensure it prepares Ugandans to the required standard.”
He also urged Brig Gen Keita to uphold integrity, emphasising zero tolerance for corruption and urging discipline in leadership.

Brig Gen Olupot, who now moves on to head the National Defence College, Uganda, thanked President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and UPDF leadership for their trust and guidance.
He expressed confidence in Brig Gen Keita, saying: “He can take this department to greater heights.”

In his remarks, Brig Gen Keita pledged unwavering commitment to the role. “I am deeply honoured to take over as JS TRADOC. The lessons from my previous assignments will guide me in this new role,” he said.
Brig Gen Keita previously served as the Commandant of the Uganda Military Academy in Kabamba. The ceremony was attended by senior UPDF officers, including Brig Gen James Kinalwa, Brig Gen Robert Mugabe, and other senior and junior staff.
