The stage is set for a landmark moment in Ugandan football as the national U-17 team — the Cubs — prepares to make its historic debut at the FIFA U-17 World Cup Qatar 2025.

Following the official draw, Uganda has been placed in Group K, where they are set to face international football giants France, Chile, and Canada in what promises to be a highly competitive group stage.

The Cubs booked their ticket to Qatar in dramatic fashion, edging out The Gambia 2-1 in a thrilling playoff showdown held in Morocco.

After conceding an early goal, James Bogere turned the tide with a sensational first-half brace, sealing a historic victory for the team.

The result marked a watershed moment, as Uganda qualified for a FIFA World Cup tournament for the first time at any level.

The FIFA U-17 World Cup, set to feature 48 participating nations, will spotlight the future stars of global football, and Uganda’s inclusion is seen as a major breakthrough in the country’s football journey.

“This achievement is a clear testament to the progress we have made as a footballing nation,” said FUFA President Moses Magogo. “It reflects the fruit of our long-term investment in grassroots and youth development. We are proud of the Cubs, and we believe this is just the beginning.”

Football fans across Uganda are rallying behind the young squad as they prepare to face some of the world’s most seasoned youth teams. With France’s rich footballing tradition, Chile’s fiery South American flair, and Canada’s rising presence on the global stage, Uganda’s Group K fixtures promise both intense challenges and exciting opportunities.

The FIFA U-17 World Cup Qatar 2025 is scheduled to kick off in November, and preparations are underway to ensure the Cubs represent Uganda with pride, discipline, and ambition on football’s grandest youth stage.

For a country where football continues to inspire dreams across generations, Uganda’s debut at the World Cup is more than just participation — it’s a defining moment in the making.
