Mobs of Boda Boda riders in Kampala have this morning attacked and set on fire the Boda Boda 2010 offices in Bukesa, Wakaliga and Makindye.

Boda Boda 2010’s head, Abudallah Kitatta and 29 others were arrested over the weeked for suspected execution of the murder of Case Hospital accountant, Francis Ekulangar and a host of other crimes including robbery and murder of women in Wakiso district.

Chanting Kitatta’s name, the furious Boda Boda riders early today ransacked Boda Boda 2010 offices in Bukesa, Wakaliga and Makindye in Kampala before setting documents and furniture ablaze.

Some of the boda boda riders claimed they were happy that Kitatta and some of his accomplices were apprehended and detained saying the group had for long been the reason for the “unimaginable suffering” of the rest of the boda boda riders in Kampala.

However, military police and anti-riot police dispersed the group and reportedly arrested arrested some of them.

Addressing journalists at Uganda Media Centre this morning, Police Spokesperson Emilian Kayima confirmed the attack on Boda Boda 2010 offices.

“Unfortunately, there are some people who want to take the law in their hands. This morning, there were sporadic attacks of Boda Boda 2010 offices in Bukesa, Wakaliga and Makindye, furniture and documents were burnt. Police in Old Kampala, Katwe intervened,” Emilian told journalists.

It was not clear, however, whether the boda boda riders who attacked the Boda Boda 2010 offices were rival groups or members of the much feared Boda Boda 2010 quasi military group with the intention of destruction of evidence in the offices that were not yet ransacked by the military.

Ekalungar was kidnapped on January 02, on his way to the bank. His body was later found burnt beyond recognition in Kajjansi on January 3.

Yesterday, the UPDF Deputy Spokesman, Lt Col Deo Akiiki issued a statement naming 30 murder suspects arrested over the weekend including the driver of the Case Hospital proprietor, Dr. Ssebaale.

Lt Col Deo Akiiki said the arrests were made by joint security agencies following credible information by those detained. Among those detained by CMI from Kyengera is Kiwalabye Huzairu, Abdullah Kitatta’s brother.

By publication time, Police spokesperson Kayima could not confirm whether there were any arrests made in connection with the burning of the offices.

“I am yet to confirm whether any persons were arrested because it happened on my way here,” Kayima told SoftPower News at Uganda Media Centre after the press conference.
