Uganda Breweries Limited (UBL) has unveiled its 2024 annual Sustainability Report, emphasizing the company’s commitment to sustainable business practices under the theme “Championing Inclusion and Diversity.”

The report aligns with UBL’s sustainable initiatives across three key pillars: promoting positive drinking, championing inclusion and diversity, and pioneering grain-to-glass sustainability.

Andrew Kilonzo, UBL’s Managing Director, highlighted the importance of inclusion and diversity. “In our business, the value of inclusion and diversity cannot be overstated. We foster innovation and creativity through a diverse workforce with varied backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives.”

Notably, UBL’s top leadership comprises over 60% women, while women make up over 30% of the total staff population. The company’s Learning for Life program has trained over 450 women and youths in the hospitality sector.

Launching the report, Minister for Gender, Labour, and Social Development Hon. Betty Amongi praised UBL’s efforts, emphasizing the significance of inclusion and diversity.

“Women, persons with disabilities, youth, and minority groups continue to encounter barriers that limit their full participation in economic, social, and political spheres. Addressing these barriers is not only a matter of social justice but also crucial for unlocking the potential of every Ugandan and driving sustainable development,” Amongi said.

She commended UBL’s commitment to empowering communities, particularly women. “UBL’s efforts in promoting inclusion and diversity are truly commendable. As Uganda continues its journey towards sustainable development, it is companies like UBL that are setting the benchmark for responsible business practices.”

Minister Amongi further emphasized the importance of private sector involvement in driving Uganda’s progress. “Their focus on empowering communities, particularly women, while advancing environmental sustainability, is a blueprint for the private sector’s role in driving Uganda’s progress.”
