President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has appointed Dr. Crispus Kiyonga as the new Chancellor of Makerere University.
This was confirmed by Professor Barnabas Nawangwe the Vice Chancellor of Makerere University.
“His Excellency the President of Uganda has appointed Dr. Crispus Kiyonga as the new Chancellor of Makerere University,” Nawangwe said on his official X handle.
He added, “On behalf of Makerere University Council, I extend our warm congratulations to Dr. Kiyonga on this prestigious appointment and warmly welcome him to the service of Makerere University.”
Dr. Kiyonga, a physician, politician, and career diplomat, replaces Prof. Ezra Suruma.
He served as Minister for Cooperatives and Marketing in 1986. Minister of Finance, Minister of Health and Minister of Defence from 2006 to 2016. He was later appointed as Uganda’s Ambassador to China in 2016.
As the Titular head of Makerere, Dr. Kiyonga will oversee key ceremonial duties and represent the university at various forums, while steering its strategic direction.
