Two police officers and a civilian driver have been shot dead in a heist that occurred Saturday night in Kalerwe, Kampala, according to the Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Emilian Kayima.
It is reported that a few minutes past 9:00pm, workers of Denovo Bread Company were attacked by gunmen who shot and killed two police officers. The officers have been identified SPC Mubiru and SPC Moses Karungi.
A driver of the company car, a Noah in which the workers were travelling, identified as Kasirye Ssengozi was also shot and passed on moments later.
Some other people (company cashiers); Nakatudde, Nakiwala, Nantongo Angella and Nansamba Winnie were injured at the incident which occurred in Kalerwe near Total Petrol station along Gayaza road.
Assailants fled off the scene and are on the run.
Police suspects that the cashiers of the bread company had been trailed as they collected cash from different sale points including; Nateete, Mutundwe, Kasubi, Bwaise, Nabweru and Lugoba.
They then proceeded to Kawempe, Mpererwe and finally Kalerwe where the attempted robbery and murder happened.
Softpower is yet to confirm whether the assailants took off with money.
