One person has died while another is hospitalized following an excavation accident at a construction site.

ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the Deputy Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, said the incident happened Friday morning at about 9am at a construction site at Mbiro Zone, Kafumbe-Mukasa Kisenyi II, Central Division in Kampala City.

According to Owoyesigyire, soil collapsed on two workers who were carrying out an excavation at a construction site.

The two victims were rescued and rushed to Doctors Clinic in Mengo where one identified as Kato Martin, 25, succumbed to the injuries. His colleague Musenze Moses, 34, is still admitted with injuries.

“His body has been conveyed to the city mortuary at Mulago as investigations into the incident continue,” said Owoyesigyire.

“There are also efforts to track down the site engineers.”
