Vivo Energy Uganda is strengthening its commitment to clean and modern cooking solutions with a Gas Cooking Workshop Friday November 21, at Mengo Senior School (Library).

The session brought together head teachers from Church of Uganda–founded schools. This was led by Alvin Bamutire, Manager, LPG at Vivo Energy Uganda.

During the workshop, Vivo Energy Uganda demonstrated how Shell Gas provides schools with a safer, cleaner, and more reliable cooking solution.

The LPG systems being showcased include large-capacity tanks and professionally installed piping that deliver consistent energy to institutional kitchens.

These systems eliminate the need for firewood and charcoal and align with the national transition toward sustainable clean-cooking alternatives.

With the adoption of Shell Gas, schools can significantly reduce their dependence on biomass fuels, helping to protect Uganda’s environment.

The shift greatly reduces the number of trees cut for firewood and charcoal, contributing to the fight against deforestation and improving ecological resilience.

Joanita Mukasa Menya, Managing Director at Vivo Energy Uganda, highlighted the project’s impact, stating, “The safe, efficient, and cost-effective solution for cooking we are delivering to schools is meant to relieve Chefs who will no longer have to spend nights cooking.

They can now prepare meals in the morning like anyone else. Beyond saving time, we’re preventing respiratory illnesses caused by smoke inhalation.”

Rt Rev Moses Banja, Bishop of Namirembe Diocese & Vice Chairperson, Board of Trustees, thanked Vivo Energy Uganda for spearheading the clean-cooking agenda and urged school leaders to integrate the campaign into their institutions.

He warned against harmful farming and cooking practices that continue to degrade the environment, stressing the moral and collective responsibility to protect Uganda’s natural heritage.

Shell Gas also improves the health and safety conditions of school kitchens. By removing soot, smoke, and harmful emissions associated with traditional biomass fuels, LPG protects cooks from respiratory complications and provides a cleaner, more comfortable working environment.

Economically, Shell Gas offers long-term savings for institutions. Many schools currently spend substantial amounts on firewood, which often becomes more expensive due to scarcity and transportation costs.

LPG systems, which are refilled periodically based on consumption, provide efficiency, reliability, and more predictable operating expenses.

The efficiency gains are equally transformative. LPG delivers instant heat, allowing meals to be prepared in far shorter times compared to traditional stoves.

This reduces staff workload, enhances kitchen productivity, and ensures timely meal service for students.

To ensure safe usage, Vivo Energy Uganda is also training school staff on the operation and maintenance of LPG systems. The training covers safety protocols, emergency response, and best practices for energy management within institutional kitchens.

Speaking at the workshop, Alvin Bamutire, LPG Manager at Vivo Energy Energy Uganda, said; “Our commitment is to help schools embrace cleaner, safer, and more efficient cooking solutions.

Shell Gas is a proven technology that transforms school kitchens by reducing costs, improving health conditions, and protecting the environment. By working closely with Church of Uganda schools, we are building model institutions that set the standard for modern clean-energy adoption across the country.”
