The Uganda Women Entrepreneurs Association Limited (UWEAL), has launched this year’s Month of the Women Entrepreneur (MOWE) activities, with Skilling Women in Business topping the Agenda.
Every year, UWEAL as an apex business organisation, holds a series of activities during November, which is the Month of the Women Entrepreneur (MOWE).
The month is dedicated to women entrepreneurs, these (women entrepreneurs) have been celebrated annually since 2006 with the support of the International Labour Organization (ILO) and UN Women.
This year’s theme is “Against all Odds foe Women Entrepreneurs”
Dr. Barbara Ofwono the Board Chairperson UWEAL, said that during the month, they will celebrate the contribution of successful women entrepreneurs, reflect on the policy environment for business, and create publicity about achievements and challenges of a woman entrepreneur.
Ofwono says that they will also undertake enterprise skills trainings, policy advocacy forums, business award dinners, exhibitions targeting business women, corporate, policy makers, and donor’s agencies.
She noted that the events are aimed at creating awareness of the need for an enabling business environment for women entrepreneurs, promoting the role of Women’s Entrepreneurs in national development.
Recognizing the potential and achievements of women entrepreneurs in generating employment and incomes, and also showcasing women entrepreneurs as role models.
Some of the Participating Organizations include, UWEAL, the coordinating entity for the activity, Women of Uganda Network (WOUGNET), Finance Trust Bank, FIDA Uganda, NAWOU, UN- Women, URA, UNBS and URSB, PPDA among others.
