The Uganda Vocational and Technical Assessment Board (UVTAB) has conducted a briefing for 174 Area Coordinators across the country to improve the assessment process for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programs.
According to CPA Onesmus Oyesigye, UVTAB Executive Secretary, the Board will conduct formal and informal assessments. Formal assessments for National Certificate, Diploma, and Higher Diploma programs will take place from May 2 to June 6, 2025. Informal assessments for Modular programs, Worker’s Pass, and Occupational levels will be held from May 2 to 9, 2025.
The briefing aims to sensitize Area Coordinators on their roles and responsibilities in ensuring the smooth conduct of assessments in accordance with the TVET law and assessment guidelines.
The Area coordinators are also tasked to conduct a briefing of the Assessment Supervisors and also attend the briefing of candidates in the respective Assessment centres.
This is aimed at sensitising and engaging Heads of Assessment Centres candidates to guard against involvement in assessment malpractices as stipulated in the TVET Act 2025, Sections 102- 108.
He emphasized the importance of guarding against assessment malpractices as stipulated in the TVET Act 2025.
UVTAB is a newly established national TVET assessment body established by the TVET Act No. 3 of 2025, which merged UBTEB and the Directorate of Industrial Training (DIT). The Board derives its mandate from the TVET Act 2025, Section 77(5).
