Police has recovered Shs 600million from suspects in the ongoing investigations on allegations of embezzling Shs 3billion belonging to Uganda Printing and Publishing Corporation (UPPC).

According to Charles Twiine, the CID spokesperson, the recovered money was destined destined for another accomplice in crime.

“Detectives at CID qtrs have recovered Ugx 600Million from some suspects of Uganda Printing and Publishing Corporation. The money which was destined for another accomplice in crime, was part of the 3Billion loot that had passed through an account of a fictitious Commission agent,” Twine said on Wednesday morning without giving further details.

Last week, UPPC Managing Director Prof. Tom Davis Wasswa, was arrested for allegedly embezzling Corporation’s funds amounting to Shs 3billion.

“Police at CID headquarters has arrested Prof. Wasswa Tomas Davis, the Managing Director Uganda Printing and Publishing Corporation (UPPC) for alleged Embezzlement of Ugx 3 billion of Corporation’s money. Syndicate noticed and other culprits to be pursued,” ASP Twine said.

Other interdicted accomplices include Kitamuweesi Musubire the Chairman Board of Directors, Moreen Nyakato, the Acting Corporation Secretary and Andrew Senabulya, the Senior Internal Auditor.

Wasswa’s arrest followed his interdiction by the Minister for Presidency, Milly Babirye Babalanda, last week.

Babalanda said she interdicted Wasswa and the top leadership at the UPPC based in Entebbe over alleged corruption.

“I have today officially interdicted the managing director, board, company secretary and internal auditor of UPPC to pave way for investigations into allegations of corruption and other irregularities,” Babalanda revealed.

Minister Babalanda, Wasswa henceforth named James Tweheyo, a presidential advisor and former Uganda National Teachers Union secretary general, as caretaker MD.

Uganda Printing and Publishing Corporation (UPPC) is a public corporation established by the UPPC Act 1992 Cap.30 as a leading printer mandated to provide printing and publishing services to government ministries, departments, and agencies, NGOs, private sector organizations and individuals.

The Corporation prints and publishes all government legislations, the Uganda Gazette, stationery and other books and reading materials for public and private sector organizations.
