High-ranking officers of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) are set to hold a football match with Members of Parliament to celebrate the 48th birthday of Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Land Forces Commander.
The match slated for this weekend was requested by two MPs; Ngompek Linos (Kibanda North) and Lillian Aber (Woman MP Kitgum District) on April 21st.
On Monday, the UPDF Joint Chief of Staff, Maj General Leopold Kyanda, informed the MPs that the CDF had cleared the friendly march to take place at the Phillip Omondi Stadium.
“I take this opportunity to inform you that the CDF agreed to your request and accordingly, the match has been scheduled for 29th April 2022 at 15:00hrs at Phillip Omondi Stadium, Lugogo. The UPDF has formed the team and has so far confirmed with the stadium management on the availability and booked the stadium for the match,” Gen Kyanda wrote to the MPs.
He added: “On behalf of the UPDF, I wish to thank you for coming up with this novel idea for the UPDF Generals to further interact with Members of Parliament through sports. This is a golden opportunity that we would not wish to miss.”
General Muhoozi held a number of activities to celebrate his 48th birthday with the latest being a dinner at State House, Entebbe.
The dinner was attended by a number of dignitaries including Rwanda President Paul Kagame.
