Uganda’s Esther Chebet Wins Gold at Málaga Half Marathon

Uganda’s Esther Chebet delivered a superb performance in Spain, winning the women’s race at the Málaga Half Marathon on Sunday with a time of 1:06:33.

Chebet produced a strong run through the streets of Málaga to claim victory ahead of Slovenia’s Klara Lukan, who finished second in 1:06:43, while Kenya’s Winnie Jepkosgei Kimutai completed the podium in 1:08:02.

The race attracted thousands of participants, with more than 12,000 runners competing in the popular road event held along the Mediterranean city’s fast and scenic course.

Chebet’s victory highlighted the continued dominance of East African athletes in international road races and added another milestone for Ugandan distance running, which has gained global recognition in recent years.

The Málaga Half Marathon, covering the standard 21.097-kilometre distance, is one of Spain’s most prominent road races and regularly attracts elite international competitors seeking fast times on its flat course.

🥇 Esther Chebet (Uganda) – 1:06:33
🥈 Klara Lukan (Slovenia) – 1:06:43
🥉 Winnie Jepkosgei Kimutai (Kenya) – 1:08:02.

Chebet’s triumph in Málaga adds to a growing list of international successes for Ugandan runners, further cementing the country’s reputation as a powerhouse in global long-distance athletics.
