“Conferences in Uganda are more than just forums for exchanging ideas and building expertise, these conferences function much like a tourist influx. The delegates, don’t simply attend talks and workshops, they explore the city, frequent markets, parks, restaurants, and even national parks. The surge in activity translates to a significant boost for the local economy,” he said.
In his remarks, the UCC Executive Director, Nyombi Thembo, noted that the decision to host the event goes beyond a mere ceremony. He explained that the decision underscores Uganda’s commitment to the work of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

“Regulators are a pivotal link in the national digital transformation agendas, so sharing experiences with our peers gives us a peep into the best global practices hence building our confidence in what we do,” he noted.
He noted that the GSR 2024 coincides with the celebration of the 25th Anniversary of the Uganda Communications Commission. Nyombi revealed that over 700 delegates are expected to attend the event.
He added, “We are therefore keen on engaging with global ICT stakeholders on key issues associated with our priority areas such as consumer empowerment, cybersecurity and data protection, broadband access, digital transformation, and international collaboration.”
Nyombi revealed that at the symposium the Commission, will showcase Uganda’s success stories, such as our Universal Communications Access and Service program. “Our experience in addressing infrastructure, connectivity gaps, and digital literacy gaps can provide valuable lessons for other nations facing similar challenges.”
