The Amaani Stadium in Zanzibar witnessed an electrifying match as Uganda and South Africa played out a draw in their CAF African Schools Championship opener.
Shadia Nabirye put Uganda ahead in the 4th minute, and the team dominated the first half with several scoring opportunities but could not add to their lead.
South Africa’s Rithabile Molefe came close to equalizing in the 25th minute, but goalkeeper Huda Ayikoru made a crucial save.
However, South Africa was awarded a penalty in the 36th minute, which Molefe converted to level the score.
Ayub Khalifa, Team Uganda’s Head Coach believes the team will perform better in the upcoming games.
“It’s unfortunate that we didn’t win this game, but we shall try to win our upcoming games.” Ayub Khalifa, Head Coach Kawempe Muslim Secondary School stated.
Kawempe Muslim faces Togo on Wednesday at 9:00 am, while South Africa takes on Gambia at the same time.
Uganda’s final group fixture against Gambia is scheduled for 11:00 am tomorrow, with a spot in the semi-finals on the line.
