Kampala — Uganda and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, on December 19, held their first Political Consultations in Kampala, marking a historic milestone in strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation in diplomacy, peace, security, and global affairs.

The high-level meeting reaffirmed the two countries’ shared commitment to regional peace and stability, while opening new pathways for trade, investment, and people-to-people engagement. Officials underscored the importance of leveraging the consultations as a structured platform to advance mutual interests and deliver tangible outcomes.

During the talks, Uganda positioned itself as a competitive destination for value addition, tourism, and multi-sectoral investment, with the potential to serve markets across Africa and the Middle East. The consultations highlighted opportunities in agro-processing, energy, infrastructure, tourism, and industrial development, aligned with Uganda’s broader economic transformation agenda.

Both sides agreed to strengthen labour cooperation, education partnerships, and humanitarian engagement, while enhancing protections and opportunities for workers and students. A key outcome of the meeting was the decision to anchor cooperation through a Joint Commission, which will coordinate implementation, monitor progress, and ensure results-driven collaboration.

The consultations reflect growing momentum in Uganda–Saudi relations, building on shared values and complementary economic strengths. Officials noted that the new framework will also deepen people-to-people ties, promote cultural exchange, and enhance diplomatic coordination on regional and international issues.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs described the consultations as a foundation for shared prosperity, signalling a new chapter in Uganda–Saudi Arabia relations focused on strategic partnership, sustainable development, and long-term cooperation.
