Uganda Rugby Cranes Sevens have been crowned champions of the 2024 Rugby Africa Men’s Sevens for the fourth time in history.
The national team defeated Mauritius in both the first and second legs. They also defeated Madagascar 31-12.
They then beat Zimbabwe 24-7 and South Africa 20-17 to seal their unbeaten run.
“CHAMPIONS OF AFRICA. Flawless, dominant, clinical, INVINCIBLE!!!” said Uganda Rugby Union on X after a victorious weekend.
It added: “With the victory over Zimbabwe in the semi-final… Uganda Rugby Cranes 7s have; Qualified for the 2025 World Challenger Series and Won the 2024 Africa Men’s 7s for the fourth time in history!!! CONGRATULATIONS BOYS.”
Education and Sports Minister Hon Janet Kataaha Museveni congratulated the team on its incredible achievement.
“Champions!!! What a fantastic win for @Uganda_Sevens! Huge applause to all of you for showing incredible resilience until the end. Your determination is absolutely admirable! Congratulations to you and the coaches, and may the Lord bless your amazing achievement!” said the First Lady on X.
The team made a triumphant return to the country on Monday from Mauritius where they emerged winners once again.
They were received at Entebbe International Airport by URU CEO Isaac Lutwama, TD Ramsey Olinga, former captain Wokorach Micheal and fans.
Uganda Rugby Cranes 7s won the title in 2016 in Nairobi Kenya, and repeated the same feats in 2017 and 2022, both in the capital Kampala.
After emerging champions for the fourth time, the Cranes 7s qualified for the 2025 Challenger Series.
