Uganda knocked out of COSAFA tournament

Uganda U20 football team, the Hippos have this afternoon been knocked out of the COSAFA tournament, after losing 6 – 5 to Lesotho on penalty shootouts.

The do or die second semi final after the earlier Egypt vs South Africa game, played on a rainy afternoon at the Arthur Davies Stadium in Kitwe, Zambia ended in a goalless draw in 90 minutes playing time, with Uganda dominating possession.

Team Captain and KCCA danger man Muhammad Shaban nearly put the ball behind the net in the 53rd minute when he took a killer shot from a long range, only to be saved by Lesotho’s shot stopper Ramalefane.

During the penalty shootouts, Uganda’s Wasswa, Kagimu, Poloto, Obuya and Allan Okello all scored only to be let down by M. Ogama who shot off target, ending Uganda’s hopes to sail to the finals since Lesotho scored all their 6 shots.

Uganda and Egypt who were participating as guest nations in this Southern Africa regional tournament, have both been eliminated leaving South Africa and Lesotho in the finals.

Meanwhile, the Uganda Cranes will also be playing in the CECAFA semi finals tomorrow in Kenya against Zanzibar.
