The Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA) has announced plans to upgrade the Kisoro Aerodome runway from its current runway length of 1200 metres to a longer runway.
According to Vianney Luggya the Public Affairs Manager, UCAA, the pre-feasibility studies were completed, and the Ministry of Works and Transport and UCAA are planning to undertake full feasibility, engineering designs and environmental and social impact assessment studies.
In April 2023, government announced plans to renovate four airstrips in different parts of the country as part of its strategy to develop the tourism industry and trade.
This resulted from a directive given by President Museveni to the Minister of Works and Transport and his tourism counterpart.
The President ordered that the airfields of Kasese, Kidepo Pakuba, and Kisoro be tarmacked and coded to enable tourists with private jets to easily access the tourism sites around these fields.
